The darkness comes from no outside light being in the room as it is fully enclosed by walls, floor and ceiling. There is another thing you can do to lighten a space while you build. Select the room like you have done in your pic. Go up a level and click on the yellow outline and delete the ceiling while you work.

It looks like the game is not recognizing the space as a room, and thus an interior space in which it would use interior lighting. It is using exterior lighting. I would advise using the custom room tool to redraw the room.

The Power meter on the right has to be greater than 0 before lights will work. You'll want to set both power and water to "Store" and not "Auto-sell". If you have it set to the default of auto sell, your stored power will keep resetting back to 0 whenever you pay your bills... and thus making your lights turn off.

a really quick workaround is to use the super subtle saucer light from basegame also. and place it directly on top of your light of choice. and what this does is. it makes the room so much brighter without actually affecting the way your light looks.

Ctrl+Shft+click on a light in build/buy mode to get an option to turn individual lights on and off (as well as set intensity, color, etc).

Sometimes people are frustrated that the floor or ceiling is not completing in a room automatically. If this happens please try re-tracing the entire room ending at the same point you began and see if the floors and walls then create themselves.

Try saving a house to your in-game library and see whether it works. If so, you could just bulldoze the lots and replace the houses. If you can't get the houses back, try recovering a backup save instead.

Open build mode. Go to interior walls. Use this button to choose whether you want paint on one wall or the whole room .

Once you've enabled cheats, you must type testingCheats true into the console. bb. enablefreebuild - build anywhere, even on locked lots such as the dorms in The Sims 4: Discover University or the hospital etc.

In the cheat console, give the command "testingcheats true" to activate the cheats. Now, the fun part, enter "bb. showliveeditobjects" command. All items can be accessed now in build mode.

click lights scroll all the way to the bottom until you get to these. grab one of them and place it here. change the light color to a light of your choice and just drag it into the wall.

I was experiencing this issue and found that it occurred on lots/rooms where the auto-lights feature was activated. I turned off this feature and things went back to normal.

this issue is usually due to custom skins or custom skins removed. Are new Sims also black ? You won't loose anything. Just make sure to not delete any files and make a backup.

Click on the room and go up a level. At the level you are in the picture click on the room and a yellow line will appear. Click on the yellow line and select build a ceiling. That should do the trick.
