Who thought mushy peas could be turned into such a delicious curry recipe! Usually an ingredient reserved as a side to traditional fish and chips, it turns out they are perfect for making a thick curry base. Mushy pea curry is the perfect fakeaway dish if your on slimming world and fancy a good old chip shop curry! Honestly even if the idea of mushy peas isn’t something that would usually float your boat, or your not a fan, I promise you this tastes nothing like mushy peas and it is totally worth a try.

This recipe is so easy to make, cheap on the old family budget, super filling and really tasty, plus you can make a chicken curry version by adding some diced chicken at the start when frying off the onions, or turn it into a chip shop curry sauce by putting it through a blender afterwards. This is a super simple and filling slimming world recipe for a Mushy Pea Curry. It may sound a little odd but it’s really tasty, really healthy and pretty cheap if your on a tight budget too.

Ingredients you will need to make Mushy Pea Curry

  • 2 small white onions, diced
  • 3 garlic cloves, peeled and diced
  • sliced mushrooms
  • 2 cans of mushy peas
  • 1 can chopped tomatoes
  • 1 can baked beans
  • 1/2 to 1tsp chilli powder, depending on how hot you like it
  • 2tbsp curry powder

Slimming World Mushy Pea Curry

This is a super simple and filling slimming world recipe for a Mushy Pea Curry. It may sound a little odd but it's really tasty, really healthy and pretty cheap if your on a tight budget too.

Ingredients

  • 2 small white onions
  • 3 garlic cloves optional
  • Sliced mushrooms optional
  • 2 cans of mushy peas
  • 1 can of chopped tomatoes
  • 1 can of baked beans
  • 1/2 to 1 tsp of chili powder depending on how hot you like it!
  • 2 tbsp of curry powder

Instructions

  • Spray a saucepan with frylight and add the 2 onions (diced), garlic cloves (crushed) and sliced mushrooms

  • Fry them for around 10 minutes until they have browned and started cooking

  • Add in the curry powder and chili powder followed by all of the tinned ingredients

  • Mix it all together well and let it simmer for around 30 minutes

  • By the end of the cooking time it should be a lovely orangey colour, serve over rice and enjoy

Notes

If you fancy something extra filling, or a meatier version of this recipe why not try adding some diced chicken, just fry it through when you cook the onions.
