So, what do these types of results mean? Here’s a closer look at warn, fail or violation messages on your Ignition Interlock device.

WARN Message

A warn message on your Ignition Interlock Device means that alcohol is present in your breath sample, but is below your state’s fail level. The device will not stop your vehicle following a warn result. Be cautious, however. It is possible that you could fail subsequent tests if you decide to continue driving.

VIOLATION Message

A violation message on your Ignition Interlock Device is a little different than a fail reading.

Violations could mean the Interlock Device detected alcohol at or above your state’s fail level, but there are other reasons as well. For example, if you missed any of your tests, or the Device detected tampering, circumventing, bypassing or disabling of the Device, this will be a violation result.
