Going on holidays is generally something we look forward to, but what if it's not? For one Reddit user, taking her daughter on vacation for months at a time proved to be damaging to their relationship.

Reddit user u/YoghurtOnly3894 shared her story in the r/AITA (Am I The A**hole?) subreddit. She explained that when her daughter was 11, she and her husband purchased a condo on the beach in a different state.
As soon as the school would let out, they would go on vacation for around three months. The OP says her daughter was never much of a fan of these trips, but she figured she would grow to enjoy them.
After a few years, the OP's daughter started to complain about the trips, saying she wanted to go home and see her friends. She stopped going out with her parents and stayed indoors while they were on holiday.
The Redditor told her daughter to make friends there, but she would argue with her. She would stay in bed for most of the day on her phone.
When she started high school, the OP's daughter got a boyfriend, so she became even more hesitant to go away for any length of time. She would make every excuse to leave, and when her dad would leave to go back to work, she would ask to go with him.
But the OP and her husband didn't want their daughter staying at home alone while he was at work. It started becoming a big issue for the family.
Fast forward and now the OP's daughter is 20, and she hasn't gone on a full vacation with the family since she was 17. Nowadays, she and her boyfriend will visit the condo for less than 10 days at a time.
The OP's daughter is still upset that she was isolated from her friends when she was younger. The Redditor even had a rule that her daughter would have to walk for an hour to earn 10 minutes on her phone.
The OP's daughter says she missed out on spending time with her friends and her boyfriend, studying and practicing her hobbies, etc. But the OP says she believes her daughter would have just laid in bed if she was allowed to stay at home.
The OP says she doesn't trust her daughter and finds it "astonishing" that she thinks she was being "held captive" while on vacation. But now the OP is wondering if she is the a**hole here.
