I'm going out for an Indian tomorrow night and would quite like to use some of my syns for a drink or two and not go completely off plan - any suggestions? I know to have chapati over naan, plain boiled rice but it's the main meal & any starter/sides I'm stuck on (& cant find my eating out guide Indian meal out suggestions | Mumsnet (1)) I'm happy with chicken, prawn or veg dishes but really not keen on dry dishes which I'm sure is sensible plus I don't want to draw attention to what I'm eating iykwim!

I have been to an Indian restaurant in London along with my Indian friend once, named Chennai Dosa near Wembley region.

The first thing I tried was a Soup made of pepper. They called it Rasam. You could try that as a starter.

Try Paneer curry or anything with Paneer. Paneer is made of milk and its rich in protein and Yummy as well. It goes perfectly well with Naan or Chappati. By the way its a side dish. You need to dip the Chappati or Naan into Paneer curry and have it.

Do share your experiences once you have the food.

A jalfrezi or a dhansak are your best bet.

Chicken tikka to start. Avoid the poppadoms!

Emma - were you answering more about what's nice from Indian restaurants? Rather than knowing the slimming world plan and what you can buy from an Indian restaurant that fits within it?

Because like PP has said, bread dipped in cheese is the opposite of what fits with the diet.

I think things from the grill are best. So, for example chicken tikka (but NOT chicken tikka masala which comes in a rich sauce). If you have that with some plain rice and salad that's perfect.

I believe chicken dhansak is one of the lowest synned curries at 10.5 syns and it's yummy. Obviously doesn't leave many syns for alcohol though.

I second chicken dhansak (10.5 syns for 550g which is about 2/3s of a restaurant serving), with boiled rice.

I’d go for a poppadom and the salad bits (without the sauces) as a starter, rather than having chapati with the main and then alcohol-wise would have shorts with a diet mixer, like a vodka and Diet co*ke as these are less syns.

If you wanted a starter I’d go for chicken tikka starter with salad, although it’s a bit dry - not sure how many syns the starter would be though so not massively helpful for you

I tend to have chicken tandoori 9.5 and chick pea Dahl 5 with plain boiled rice Free. As coeliac I cant eat bread but I know a chappati is 7.5 as opposed to a naan of 20!
