Our History
Slow Food started in Italy in March 1986, when the opening of a fast food restaurant near Rome’s Spanish Steps sparked widespread protest. Through its ever-growing network of grassroots activists, the Slow Food movement spread around the world, establishing itself in more than 160 countries.
Our Global Structure
Slow Food is a global grassroots movement, and the Slow Food Foundation is the coordinating legal entity.
