One of the most common questions our team is asked during thepole barn building processis whether or not the customer should have a concrete pad poured before starting construction.
The short answer to this question is no.
Because of the way pole buildings are constructed, we prefer that our customers do not have pre-poured concrete slabs in place. While having a concrete pad won’t make your build impossible, it does have the potential to make it more expensivedue to extra labor required.
Why Shouldn’t I Pour Concrete Before Building a Pole Barn?
During post frame construction, Beehive Building starts by digging (or augering) holes into the ground, placing each post up to 12’ apart to create the framing. Each post iscemented in below the frost levelto ensure the building is securely anchored to the ground. After this process is complete, our builders will then pour the concrete floor in your pole barn (if you choose to have one).
By having a concrete floor already in place at the site of your pole barn build, you create an additional step in theprocess. Instead of digging into the earth, the team will first need to cut into the slab, which will cost more time and money for your project.
