Once an ice cream parlor in the Philippines, Jollibee is now one of Asia's largest and most lucrative restaurant groups. In just 40 years, the fast food chain has opened over 3,200 locations worldwide while stealing the hearts of millions thanks to its joyous, thick bee mascot, Jollibee. The chain has finally made its way to Times Square, NYC, so I had to try everything on the menu. Here are my four favorite things to order at Jollibee.
1
Chickenjoy Bucket
There's a reason people wait in hours-long lines for this chicken. The skin is thick and crunchy and the meat is tender and juicy. I couldn't stop eating it—taking just one bite is not possible! Dunking it in the gravy may be a bit gratuitous considering it's salt on salt, but you only live this one life, so just do it. (Just have water at the ready ready.)
2
Jolly Spaghetti
This is the most iconic item at Jollibee, and not just because spaghetti is uncommon on a fast food menu. It's because the sauce is made with banana ketchup. Yes, you read that correctly.
Tomatoes aren't common in Southeast Asia, but bananas are everywhere, so Jollibee uses bananas, sugar, salt, and food dye to create its pasta sauce. Similar to a bolognese but far sweeter, this signature item is loaded with chunks of ham and hot dog. You must try this once, even if you just take one bite.
3
Cheesy Deluxe Yumburger
The Yumburger is the menu item that started it all, and there's a reason why. The patty is thin and has an onion and MSG-type flavor added to it. The secret sauce is a sweet, creamy mayo, almost Kewpie-style.

4
Peach Mango Pie
What sets this pie apart from its golden arches nemesis is it's actually deep fried in-house—and you can taste it. The golden, flaky crust is thick and the filling is candy-sweet. Personally the pie is too sweet for my liking, but if you're craving dessert at Jollibee, go for this.
