What months can your electric not be shut off in PA? ›

Your utility service can be shut off during winter months (December 1 through March 31) without the PUC's approval if you fail to pay your bill. In order to shut off service in the winter months, your income must be above 250 percent of the federal poverty level.

If your service has been terminated or you are have received a shut off notice, you may qualify for UESF. To apply, please call or visit one of the UESF intake sites. Utility companies servicing Philadelphia and Pennsylvania also have programs to assist you in paying your bills.

Electricity and Natural Gas Assistance

Customer Assistance Programs (CAPs) are designed to help low-income residential customers maintain utility service.

If you have not paid, or if you are behind in paying, your utility bills, the utility company can shut off the service to your rental property after giving proper notice. See Utility Shut-Offs. However, even if you cannot pay the whole amount owed, you can take steps to keep your utility service on.

Hardship Funds can provide you with cash assistance if you need help paying your utility bill or if you still have a critical need for assistance after other resources have been exhausted. Hardship Fund programs make cash payments directly to your utility company.

Who is eligible for LIHEAP? The income limit for LIHEAP is 150% of the Federal Poverty Level. For an individual, that is a gross income of $21,870 per year, and for a family of four, that is a gross income of $45,000 per year. Income requirements are determined by the size of the applicant's household.

The Salvation Army HeatShare program provides assistance with utility bills for households that have received a shut-off notice. The Salvation Army offers utility assistance throughout Western Pennsylvania.

To be eligible for Pennsylvania Family Assistance, you must be a resident of Pennsylvania, and a U.S. citizen, legal alien or qualified alien. You must be unemployed or underemployed and have low or very low income.

In January 2023, six years after initially pledging to regulate the chemicals, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection passed limits of 14 ppt for PFOA and 18 ppt PFOS in drinking water.

A new application must be submitted each year. RAP recipients will receive a $10 monthly credit towards the Monthly Fixed Charge of their water bill for up to a 12-month period.

Past due bills

Your bill is due when you receive it and becomes past due 19 days after the date the bill was prepared. You will have 15 days at your new address to pay a bill from a prior address before your service will be terminated.

Reset the main breaker by turning the switch off and on two times. Leave the switch in the on position. Return to the breaker panel inside your home and turn each breaker back to the on position, one by one. In many cases, power is now restored.

There is a 2% late payment fee on energy charges that were not paid. Residential customers will be charged when you have unpaid payments due that are six or more days late. Commercial or industrial customers will be charged when you have unpaid payments due that are four or more days late.

If your meter type has the non-disconnection function, you won't get cut off if you run out of credit at these times: Monday to Friday 6pm to 11am. Anytime on weekends and Bank Holidays, until 11am the next working day.

This notice can be sent 20 days after the date payment was due. After the notice has been sent to you, the utility must allow 15 days for you to resolve the problem before it can shut off your service.

Utility companies cannot issue a disconnection notice until the first day after the payment due date. Your service cannot be disconnected until at least 10 days after the notice, and the disconnection date cannot be a holiday or weekend day. The disconnection notice must be a separate mailing or delivered by hand.
