There’s nothing better than fresh picked strawberries from Mayberry Farms.
Strawberries are a delicious and nutritious treat that are enjoyed best when picked right out of the field in June during strawberry month at Mayberry Farms. Soif you don’t store them properly, they can go bad quickly, here’s how to keep your strawberries fresh longer.
Strawberry Storage Basics
An easy way to extend the shelf-life of those sweet, seasonal strawberries? Simply take a dip in some specially crafted water bath – one part white vinegar and three parts H2O.
The most important thing when it comes to storing strawberries is making sure they are dry. After quickly draining them off and drying as much excess liquid with paper towels or even a salad spinner, store your berries away in an airtight container for future snacking!
Refrigeration is Key
Keep your fresh strawberries in the refrigerator for best results. If you’re pressed for time and cannot wash and rinse them right away make sure to place unwashed berries in an airtight container lined with paper towels (this will help absorb any extra moisture) and keep them in the refrigerator for up to five days.
If you don't think you'll be able to eat all of your strawberries within five days, consider freezing them for later use—more on that below!
Frozen Berries are Perfect for Smoothies and Baking
If you find yourself with more fresh berries than you can eat within five days, freezing them is always a great option! Rinse off your strawberries and pat dry with paper towels before cutting off their stems and halving or quartering each one (depending on size). Then spread out the pieces on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and place in the freezer until frozen solid—roughly two hours should do it! Once frozen, transfer the berries into an airtight container and store in the freezer for up to six months. Frozen berries are perfect for smoothies and baking recipes like strawberry jam bars or muffins.
With these tips, you can enjoy fresh strawberries all summer long! Whether it's eating them straight from the fridge or using frozen ones in baked goods, there's nothing quite as delightful as enjoying this sweet summer treat in June during strawberry month at Mayberry Farmsknowing that they will stay fresh longer than ever before!
