I believe that a great sauce can make all the difference. It has the ability to transform a boring meal into something mouth watering, and one of those sauces is this creamy and smoky Chipotle Sauce recipe!
I’ve made different versions of this sauce for as long as I can remember. I’ve used it in my Sweet Potato Black Bean Burgers as a mayo and on my pan-fried Fish Tacos and crispy battered Baja Fish Tacos as a sauce.
It’s become a staple in my fridge and I know you’re going to love it, too!

Chipotle sauce recipe ingredients
One of the magical things about this recipe is how much flavor you get from only 4 simple ingredients! Here’s what you’ll need:
- 15 ounces mayonnaise (regular, light, or vegan)
- the zest and juice of 2 limes
- 2 chipotle peppers in adobo sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
The lime juice and lime zest perfectly balances the smoky flavors of the chiptole and adds some brightness to the recipe. The garlic powder really ties everything together and balances out the creaminess of the mayo.
How to make chipotle sauce
Add mayonnaise, chipotle peppers, garlic powder, lime juice and lime zest to a blender or food processor. (photos 1-4)
Blend until smooth and creamy. (photo 5)
It’s literally one of the easiest and most flavor sauces I’ve ever made!
Ways to use chipotle sauce
This sauce can be eaten on burgers and fish tacos as a chipotle mayo, with fries and roasted potatoes as a dipping sauce and as a dressing on salads and burrito bowls!
Here are some more recipe ideas that would go great with this sauce:
- drizzle it on top of some Carne Asada Fries
- as a dressing on Chicken Burrito Bowls
- as a sauce on these Jalapeno Salmon Patties
- as a dipping sauce with these Crispy Oven Baked Chicken Tenders or these Baked Chicken, Bean and Cheese Taquitos
Pro Tip: To use it as a dressing on salads and bowls, I recommend mixing in a splash of water or two to thin out the sauce until it’s the perfect dressing consistency.

I’m a huge fan of chipotle sauce. This was the first time I have made it at home. I should have done it sooner. I prefer spicy so I used the whole can of chipotle peppers. I have ate it every day since I made it. I put it on burgers, chicken Pattie’s and used it as a dip for pizza. It is so good. I will be making it again. Thank you.Reply

what are cipolties in adobe sauce? Can you just use the peppers?
Reply
Ana @ Isabel Eats
Hi Judith! They’re chipotle peppers that have been rehydrated and canned with a sweet and tangy adobo sauce. You can definitely just use regular dried chipotle peppers if you prefer.
