Dessert Recipes to Inspire Your Inner Artist from Sprinkle Bakes (2024)

Although it’s been a while since I last posted a cookbook review, it really did take me some time to locate one that was deserving of sharing with you, the readers.

One of the most significant dessert-focused cookbooks to be released this year is The Sprinkle Bakes Cookbook, subtitled Sprinkle Bakes: Dessert Recipes to Inspire Your Inner Artist. This dessert-specific cookbook, written by Heather Baird of the Sprinkle Bakes blog, presents a novel perspective on baking: baking as art. Baking has been linked to art in various ways, including blank canvases, sculpture, color, mixed media, and many more. This is in addition to the fact that various frostings can be attractive, cookies can be cut into amusing shapes, and Jello can be shaped.

Since roughly two years ago, I’ve been writing posts about Heather’s confections as sources of ideas and inspiration for many of my own recipes. I adore the way she uses baked foods as canvases and injects her unique style, which is both feminine and motivating. The lovely photos of her pugs (dogs) that are scattered throughout the blog are also unbeatable. The blog has a lighthearted vibe and demonstrates how crucial internet writing is to those of us who share recipes digitally and how it may someday appear in print.

So here are some reasons why you should purchase this book:

A Fantastic Reference for Novices:

A lot of Heather’s recipes are excellent for novice cooks. For those just starting to experiment with colored fondant, food painting, and icing as a medium, she offers recipes for basic sugar cookies, homemade fondant, several types of icing, and even a list of stencils at the back. The cookbook is also technologically advanced in many ways—you’ll find gorgeous macaroons, painstakingly hand-painted cookies, and a ton of other mind-blowing dishes.

Visually stimulating

It would be an understatement to say that Heather’s baked goodies are more like works of art. The baked items Heather makes are works of art. As the book’s title implies, she approaches baking by drawing inspiration from her experience as a painter and photographer, and she shows readers how to apply that knowledge to ordinary baked goods like cookies and cakes. For examples of how pliable this sort of baking “art” can be, see the pages on brush strokes and the various varieties of sweet dough.

An Introduction to Baking Tools, Art Materials, and Decorating Tools

It can be difficult to understand how Heather achieves such wonderful outcomes for her blog at times. The Sprinkle Bakes Cookbook’s first few pages give you an idea of what works and what doesn’t. It’s funny to see that Heather utilizes parchment paper for her work rather than a Silpat because I constantly recommend using one in my own kitchen. Additionally, Heather’s other tools, like her rolling-pin guide bands and piping tip brushes, can offer me advice.

There are many more reasons to think about purchasing the Sprinkle Bakes book, which is only $11.98 on Amazon.com. However, these are just a few of them. I intend to write reviews of some of Heather’s recipes that I have and, perhaps, you will be itching to try as I progress through the book in the upcoming months.

How can you add even more pleasure to cakes, pastries, and candies? The solution is to cook like an artist, says award-winning food blogger Heather Baird, a fresh new voice in the culinary world. With the help of her incredible talents as a baker, confectioner, and painter, she has produced a stunning, avant-garde cookbook that will inspire every baker’s inner creativity.
One of the few truly creative cooking outlets for the home cook, in Heather’s opinion, is producing desserts. She has arranged the recipes according to line, color, and sculpting rather than dessert type (cookies, tarts, cakes, etc.). As a result, SprinkleBakes is both an astonishingly thorough dessert cookbook and a detailed guide for artists that covers everything from brush techniques to color theory.

Purchaseable via bookshops, Amazon, Discover Books, and Barnes & Noble. Readers can readily get access to SprinkleBakes by going to their neighborhood booksellers or by buying it online from well-known retailers like Amazon, Discover Books, and Barnes & Noble. This cookbook’s distinctive approach to dessert preparation offers not only a huge selection of recipes but also insightful information on the artistic methods used to produce visually attractive desserts.

The Art of Using Salts for the Ultimate Dessert Experience: Sea Salt Sweet

If you’ve ever sprinkled salt over a juicy slice of melon or dipped pretzels in melted chocolate, you’ve experienced the magical alchemy of combining salty and sweetness. The dishes in Sea Salt Sweet take it a step further by fusing these two fantastic tastes in unexpected ways. Award-winning blogger and expert baker Heather Baird shows you how to prepare delectable treats for every occasion using excellent artisan salts, such as Maldon Sea Salt, Red Hawaiian Salt, Himalayan Black, and French Grey Salt.

The new Sprinkle Bakes book arrived on my front porch the other week, and it was quite special! You guys are absolutely missing out if you haven’t been reading Heather’s blog. She creates some of the most breathtakingly beautiful baked items, and she also takes some of the most stunning culinary photos I have ever seen. Making dessert enjoyable and beautiful is the focus of her entire blog, and she fully embodies that idea in her book as well.

Growing up, my grandfather enjoyed baking cakes, especially excellent, lovely wedding and celebration cakes. He had a lovely interest, and it only served to highlight his uniqueness. There aren’t many farmers or retired Navy officers who can bake AND design a cake, but he did! As my passion for food and baking has developed, I can see that I have inherited his love of gorgeous pastries.

The fact that Heather genuinely encourages her readers to find their own inspiration and to utilize her recipes and techniques as the cornerstone for their own creative fun is one of my favorite things about her book. Many times, I believe, we just want to follow someone else’s recipe precisely as they did and go on, but it’s so much more enjoyable to be inventive in the ways that personally inspire us. It’s wonderful to see a writer who promotes and supports that in their work!

Although I’ve already baked a few of Sprinkle Bakes’ cookie recipes, the macaron recipe is now my fave. I was hesitant to try making my own macarons because I had never truly created them and hadn’t really tasted one before my trip to the Foodbuzz Festival in November. But all it took to truly ratchet up my excitement was starting to beat the egg whites. These lovelies are quite simple—I just followed the recipe exactly—but they are scrumptious. To replicate the sunlight coming through the windows, I used yellow food coloring in mine. I filled them with chocolate ganache because that is what I had on hand. I’m going to make these frequently, maybe in bite-sized sandwiches, for Nate and I to enjoy as well as for friends and family now that I know the basic recipe.

I am aware that there are many cookbooks available and that many blogs offer recipes, but I genuinely enjoy this book and will be keeping it on the same shelf as my most frequently used cookbooks. It’s lovely, motivating, and just delicious! This cookbook is ideal for both novice and expert bakers because the recipes are delectable and simple to follow. Using this fantastic resource, I can’t wait to try with other flavors and additional recipes.
